Art is meant to be seen and shared. One way of doing so is to sell the original, which many artists do. But another way, facilitated by the digital age we live in, is to digitize it, by scanning or photography, so that it can be copied, printed and published.
There may be many psychological reasons an artist would hesitate to share their art. Fear of exposure and criticism are among these. When we copy and print an artist’s work, we encourage small steps to
begin with. Scanning one or two small pieces and creating greeting cards, for example, gives an opportunity to share that isn’t a big risk financially, but could give you important information about yourself as an artist and your art.
Yes. Photoshop and other computer applications help retain the original design elements more accurately. Often, however, Photoshop extends the artist's creativity in a new direction when they
can consider selling more copies of their art to many clients, and not just one.
Yes, of course it does. But the design, including the shape and color remain intact if the work is done carefully.
I have access to high end Canon and Epson printers for work up to 17 inches wide. These printers can print on a variety of photography papers such as matte, luster, gloss, textured and baryta papers, as
well as coated canvas. We work closely with a local print shop for larger prints.
Yes. We stock both square 5.5 inch X 5.5 inch paper and 5 inch X 7 inch paper, together with envelopes and transparent sleeves, just like you see in the card stores. This is our most popular product.
Very large pieces that can’t be transported easily can be copied at their location with use of portable lighting and camera equipment. We will consider each project on its own, but the prices below would be accurate but would have to entail an additional charge for transporting and setting up the equipment.
The most important question. Scanning and photographing art is priced separately from printing. We also would offer a discount for copying more than one piece of a similar size, since the set-up is the
same. Here are some example estimated prices, but every project is different and has different requirements. We will always give our customers an accurate estimate. These prices include any necessary digital manipulation using Photoshop for color corrections and cropping.
Please call or email for an initial conversation from which we will decide on next steps. Usually we will have to decide on where and when to do the copying, either photography or scanning. You are
welcome to either leave the art with me for a few days, or book a longer appointment to watch the work. There is no additional cost if you wish to watch and I’m happy to teach you at the same time.
In the two examples below, the top photo of the original, watercolor art has been processed for color accuracy and cropped. This watercolor painting is on a 9 inch X 12 inch sheet. The photo below is the original, unprocessed photo. The watermark on both photos is for security, preventing anyone else from copying the photo.
This example is of a 4 ft. X 4 ft. painting. The original was photographed on an easel.
The photo here is the final digital copy
used for printing both larger prints and greeting cards
